Let me add that indeed this couplet is beneficial to us in two ways
One is it’s message, which is profound in meaning
Second it’s analysis for students of Arabic Language and Grammar
May Allah grant our respected Ustaaz long life, best of health and prosperity and best of Imaan
    Ameen

Allah is musabbibul asbaab. He opened up opportunities to those who yearned to learn the language of the Qur’an without tears around the globe through the simple approach of Madinah Books. And to those who are novice LQTORONTO came to their rescue. Here comes the bonus gift , The blog of our beloved Shaikh. Insha Allah we will have great days ahead to strengthen our knowledge, Yaa Allah strengthen him as he strengthened us in undestanding YOUR kalaam.

  4. Maryam says:

Assalaamu alaykum wa Rahmatullaahi wa Barakaatuhu yaa fadiilatas Shaykh, HafiZakumullaah

Jazaakumullaahu khair dear Shaykh for this beautiful and wise couplet. Although just two lines, it is so thought provoking and insightful in meaning, Mashaa Allaah. May Allaah reward its anonymous author with much good.

This is the first poem I have ever studied in Arabic and alhamdulillaah, I thoroughly enjoyed it!

  5. Student4Life says:

    Masha Allah excellent lesson

Just one question, the word يوما has not been translated, when do we know when to translate the words and when not to?

  6. Fii says:

    Assalaamu’alaykum warahmatullaah..
Yaa Ustaaz, I’m still confused on what (a-i) and (a-u) mean in this poetry.
Will you please explain how they mean?

    Jazaakumullaahu khair.

      Assalaamu “alaikum

It refers to the mujarrad verb baabs.

Please see Madinah Book 2, lesson 10, point 1 in the English Key for a full explanation of this annotation.

        • dr.vaniya says:

Our Shaykh’s poetry lessons are very easy but Arabic poetry books are very different.

Poetry has its own grammar and linguistic constructions which sometimes differ from regular grammar and language rules. Poetry allows it for metric reasons. One’s knowledge of Arabic grammar should be very firm and advanced otherwise one may get confused when reading poetry books. We advise you to continue to the Shaykh’s post-Madinah courses (Qur’aanic suurah courses) to become more firmly grounded in Qur’aanic Arabic to understand the Qur’aan better. After this, you will find it easy and more useful to study poetry إن شاء الله.

          This is our advice.

          جزاك الله خيرا
