   Allahu Akbar!

   A question that has always been on my mind. You just touched on it.

   When some non-muslims questions the use of naa in the Quran referring to Allah. We tell them that is majestic plural as it is in English; also as you have mentioned in the lesson.

   But they generally say there has not been any report in any semitic languages of the majestic plural. Also I have heard some so called linguists (some Bible scholars) say that also. So they say Elohim in the Bible is definitely plural and the naa in the Quran is also plural.

   Yaa Sheikh is there any proof to silence these people? Or better still what is the history of the majestic plural in semitic languages – Arabic particularly.

     I am afraid I will not be able to do full justice to such a complex question in this forum.
     One thing is certain. Not all Semitic languages share all linguistic features.
     With regard to tawHiid, the Qur’aan is very clear.
